Running Around Town:  Washington, D.C.

Ratings

Routes have been subjectively rated with Roman Numerals between I and X.  A rating of I is easy and a rating of X is the hardest.  Since the longest routes in the book are approximately 14 miles, they represent a rating of X. Obviously, harder runs can be made-up simply by adding on more miles.  Any harder run would be rated a X.  Hills, flatness and terrain have been factored into the ratings of routes.  For instance:

$                  an average 6 mile route might get a V
$                  a hilly 6 mile route might get a VI
$                  a very hilly or difficult terrain 6 mile route might get a VII
$                  a flat 6 mile route might get a IV
